    Hi Doc

Have modified spring plates to siut straight axle conversion and a good mate of mine suggested they might be too short.

To get lenght I used the same centres as a bug plate but maybe I should have taken the centre of the axle in relation to the spring plate when assebled in reduction box and made that the centre of the axle that needs to be notcted

The Doctor's had a couple of goes trying to answer this in 'words' and
found it pretty difficult. When he has a moment he'll try and do a couple
of simple diagrams to help explain....

But he thinks your friend may well be right. It looks like you've made
them to bug length. This might be OK but you only have the 'most forward'
axle adjustment position available. If the axle needs to be moved backwards to get the rear
wheel alignment 'in' there is nowhere to go (and no meat left in the springplate to lengthen the slots).

If you take the end of a bug springplate (do a template) and lay it over a
bus spring plate you'll see that the rear of the 2 rear bug bolt holes just
touches the front of the two outer rear bus holes. The front of the front
bug mounting hole just touches the rear of the bus front mounting hole
(the doctor said trying to explain in words was a beeach!).

You trace thebug holes onto the bus springplate and cut a slot that joins all
the bus holes and bug holes together. You also trace out and cut the bug 'U' in the
    bus springplate.

You end up with bus springplate length and reasonably long slots.
