Been lots threads discussion fuel use and economy over the years so here is the result from our recent Bus Stop extended trip. Our adventure took us over 4500 km from Bend of Islands in Victoria to Swansea, on to Hervey Bay and return home.

Schmetterling is a 1979 with a tired standard 2 L twin carburettor engine. Always use 91 octane fuel but from various outlets. Travelling speed varied from day to day depending on the conditions, (weather and road etc.) and our desire to cover some distance. Usually aim for a leisurely 90/95 km/h but some days sat on 105 to cover some distance. Try to keep temp gauge reading below 110.

Fuel price ranged from $1.119 at Bairnsdale on the way up to $1.359 at Warwick in Qld

We did 4542 km and used 489.7 L of fuel. This equates to 10.78 L/100km or in the old money 26.2 mpg.

Quite Happy with that.. Standard trim and 91 octane works for us.

Apal thats good milage, i have never been able to get more than ,in old terms, 22mpg. On individual calculations ,as in calculated at each fill ,i do get an variation due to how much i can put in the tank at any particular servo which ranges from i8 to 23 but as an overall thing i have nerer been able to manage a complete log on an overall trip, my fault. Best laid plans you know. Anyhow well done .
    regards chris
