The transition from rear engine / rear wheel drive T3, to the forward engine / front wheel drive T4, was not a smooth one for VW.

I just looked at a cheap bus with the compliance saying 2 seats. I put the vin through the brickwerks link and found no reference to seating capacity but its description was " IMG_1815.PNG .
Do i need an 8-9 seat compliance plate to have seats like the T2s ? I wont go down the path of engineering if it for seats if it comes to it.
    Cheers.

    Dont understand?

I thought if the compliance plate says 2 then that is all you are allowed to carry?

    What is different with T2's?

No difference im assuming but im just double checking somthing didnt change from T2 - T3. It has a middle seat and belts but not legal according to compliance.

What is on the rego papers? Somewhere along the lines it could have been approved for more seating.

It should have it down the bottom alongside the engine number and axle code - is it just blank? Underneath that it should also have any modification reports listed under "Conditions and Information"

This sounds a bit like deja vue. Way back when I pulled my bus out of the weeds of western Sydney, guess what the rego papers said about seating capacity. Yep, blank, nil, nothing. Guess what the Robbing Traffic Autocrats said? But, but, but, but it's complained as a 2 seater. Baaahhhh, engineers papers please. Oh well, at least it's now a legal 5 seater.

Even if it's had stock seats added and complianced in another state, good chance you'll need another local engineering certificate. :(

I agree Grant. It wasnt in that great shape. Could pay $2k of the $2.6 hes asking and easily spend another 4-6 on it. It has rego but non stock carbies, a miss high in the rev range, no service history, no idea of ks, rusty drivers floor, sloppy gear changes, oily engine, handbrake cable out of shape, etc etc .
Pretty much whats expected for a T3 advertised for $2600.
I think ill pass on this one.
