Tragedy has come upon me and my beloved T3 (originally from SA) - body was beyond ratty (interior good), but engine top end needs redo ... it needs to be sold / parted out RIP

I'm looking to get a good straight T3 similar to the original - not camper / 8 seater ... microbus style, perfect for beach / dogs kids etc ... like my original

I haven't been tracking prices ... what would one be forking out for a very straight rust free mid 80's T3? Assuming engine is 'sound' (I'm not naive on this, having had one for most of the last decade - but I'm not a mechanic)

    Thoughts and opinion appreciated!

    My "generic" eastern states assumptions.
Looking for very straight n clean n reliable..
12k starter to 16k getting realistic , and up from that for really good examples ( mostly well presented campers as that seems the desire currently. )
I would also expect the occasional quite nice and acceptable example to occur from 8k if its your lucky day.?
Most between 4 and 8 is usualy trash with a few maybe worth checking out.

Just my view from the samples Ive seen.

Phil or others will likely have a better base to comment on.

    Cheers

Appreciated - particularly looking at Caravelle / Bus not the camper ...

Being in WA you are at a disadvantage as lots more choice on Eastern States.

Agreed, what with the GST ... :)

And during the 'boom' the cost of services - particularly mechanical, went through the roof - now they haven't gone down ...

We are a very small market for everything - my last T3 engine came from the east - much cheaper than doing a rebuild

That said, the world is not over: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-view-details.html?adId=1158738402

    :)

    Cheers

Looks like a nice van, been for sale for a while so price should be negotiable.

That does look nice - not sure where they get the 10 seater from.
Could it be a personal import from the UK or South Africa? Love that rear seat set up.

Yes looks like SA import easy to tell at first glance if there is no blank for LHD wind screen wipers. They are prone to rust so worth looking hard

Ive been looking for a few months myself and agree with above comments. Im looking at a "cheaper" one today to compare to one i couldnt afford last week $11+.

If u have the cash buy one for 10-15, or else spend as little as possible and be handy and willing to put in some elbow grease and long nights on kombi club forums.
    Good luck.

Thanks everyone ... moving to making an offer ... figure the deceased one on the verge deserves a replacement!
