hello all T3 transporters . just wondering can you change your collant and water yourself or does it have to be done by mechcanic .because is it a pressuresize system and what sort of coolant should you use VW? and how often ? regards petersbilt.

Easily done, if you are reasonable competent.

Been lots of debate about coolant, and it seems a personal choice - just don’t use green coolant as it will eat your engine.

They left the factory with blue VW/Audi G11.

Mine both run on pink VW/Audi G12++, but there are others on here running Nulon red.

Just make sure that you use distilled or demineralised water. Very important. Do not use tap water.

If correct think I've seen posts by Grant saying he uses rainwater from his tanks.

Your memory hasn’t failed you (yet) Bert, I do only use rainwater, and it’s closely monitored for purity for the use in the house, (dishwasher, washing machine, hot water service and fridge ice maker all love me for it!) ;)

After my first rebuild some 20+ years ago, I asked the mechanic why the head bolts had corroded so badly, and why the VW coolant had caused such pain?

He explained, the coolant was fine, it’s the Tap water that’s done the damage....:(

Changed the maintenance plan from that day on......
