So after a very long 11 months today Buster was sent to Volkshome. Mega excited!!
It is the start of a complete overhaul inside and out. Its going to be expensive, dont care, its going to take time, don't care, its going to be challenging, love a challenge and fingers crossed most of it goes well.

Just cant wait to be driving him again.

Nice looking van. If at all possible keep your pistons & liners as the MV pistons & liners are NLA & the Chinese crap will not last 10 minutes. DJ high compression pistons are still available from UK

Being resprayed in the same COB metallic gold, or going for a longer lasting 2pac solid colour?

Some previous “professional” repairs to my bus were done using a non factory spec coating.

Years later, now the clear finish coat is flaking off, (the original paint elsewhere is still good), so it’s forced me into a total respray, to get it back to looking like it did.......:(

Possibly, but this time it’ll be a “chequebook resto”, like BUS_TER is sensibly doing. ;)

Hi BUS_TER, I'm following your project with interest. I have an '85 Trakka and am considering a full respray and restoration.

Well challenge seemed to be most accurate!! Buster has been at Volkshome for 6 weeks now and is still in pieces. Nothing was salvageable on the original 2.1 and apparently the last two studs wont come out (as of last week). I got bitten by import tax & duties to the tune of $500 on top the $2200 AUD for my gowesty springs and Fox shocks, wasnt expecting that and I cant fit them to a car I cant drive. So it is evident that this project will require me to work 80 Hrs a week to pay for it. But alas Ive had the opportunity to work on my patience. Hopefully by the time I've come back from Byron over Easter ol mate will be ready for me to run in the new beast. John from Volkshome had sent out all his feelers for a new case but could not find one anywhere which tells me how important it is to look after the one I am getting and make sure it lasts. Still in limbo with regards to finding 16" Rims.

Good luck with the restoration, like many of us, yes you need to work 80 hours/week just to keep the bloody things going!!

I've gotta get someone else to beat / paint my Transporter. But time is short. I'm building a mobile (trailer-based) workshop plus fitting out the interior.
