I had to “like” your like David!!
    So I....
Put the rear left brakes back on after a quick rebuild on the cylinder.
“Lengthened” the handbrake cables as the ones that I ordered for a 60 - 63 are too short for a 61!
Replaced left front sliding window and put new felts in both sides.
Replaced oil in both RGB’s and in gearbox.
    Replaced fuel hoses.
Put engine back in for a road test.
Didn’t get to road test as had to pick up son after a mystery bus trip with work.
Time poor today but we’ll see what happens...

Stripped off the LH side handles, mud flaps, sliding door cover and rear bumper, to drop back to the panel shop.

After this summer heat, paint shrinkage has shown up in a few places, and the spray painter, unhappy with the result, (as am I), wants to respray the lower side, at his cost.

Near impossible to photograph, but if you look at the sliding door, towards the front, you’ll see a band where the reflection is “out of focus”. Just one of the many areas along the whole side....

In the right light, the whole side stands out like dogs appendages.....

Looked OK when I picked it up, but took about 4 months to start happening, and the excessive relentless January heat we suffered, really brought it out...

If I didn’t notice it, I’m damn sure someone at Old Bar would have happily pointed it out to me then, but it took longer to appear.

He’s obviously a pretty good painter if he’s doing it again for you Grant. Hard to get all jobs perfect every time but it’s what you do about the ones that aren’t that matter.

Small operation, and his name is on the work. He does way more expensive resto’s than mine, and has his reputation to uphold. ;)

To a point Col, and to a price. I never expect a top result, from a budget price. Anything is possible, with varying amounts of time and money.

The cost of the initial respray was around 20% higher than I expected. As I was assured the result would be better than when I picked it up from new, 30 years ago, I didn’t ever haggle the price, and committed to having the work done.

With the subsequent issue, the painter and I both agree, VW would never have released the bus looking like it does, so it needs rectification accordingly.

I’m just happy he agreed, that my concerns were quite reasonable, and I don’t need to go a costly legal path to have it sorted. ;)

Yeah. The defects were such and demanded rectification.
As you say. Good that he is a man of his word.
Not always the case with some.

I got flagged by the truck behind me and then the Range Rover in front of me but it was raining and I didn't have time to stop to look for it. I think it is somewhere near the lights at Fraser Park, heading South. I couldn't see anything on my way home but it was dark and on the other side of the road. I have spares - it's not the end of the world - just annoying.
