My new convertible top for my 2007 Beetle arrived from the US - finally! After being delivered to Aus, returned to the US and now delivered again directly to me - can't wait to get it installed.

You should have sent to Victoria for on-forwarding.
No vaccine is a requirement to enter quarantine here.

Bit of a mystery Chris - I watched the tracking - it was sent from the US in California on 16th April - it landed in Sydney on 22nd April - it then went to customs for clearance and despite trying to contact FedEx and the seller, I wasn't able to get any answers as to why it was just sitting there. I finally get notification that it cleared customs on 13th May at 7.07pm and then on 13th May 7.15pm it was being returned to shipper! I eventually get to speak to someone at FedEx on 14th May and they tell me that customs had been trying to get hold of me to pay stamp duty of $242 but the phone number they had was incorrect and the seller had not been able to be contacted for my correct details or email - and it had already been sent back to the US. I emailed the seller to let them know - turns out they had left the last number off my phone number. So they sent it back to me and this time it cleared customs straight away with no duty - and to top it off - the label still was missing the last digit of my phone number!

I have a set of black leather seats to go in that are best done with the top off so it will be a big change - luckily my son will be doing this for me.

So it was actually a good thing, and a saving of $242, to take a little longer. ;)

    Blessing in disguise!! Haha
I would have happily paid the duty if I had been contacted.

    The vagaries of customs.
I received a bunch of Mini parts from the UK via FedEx last month.
FedEx contacted me via email - customs required asbestos declaration completed (included clutch cylinders, clevis pins, hydraulic lines); stamp duty and GST to be paid before the shipment left the UK.

Need to do a little mortar removal to chase in some wires, so checked out Kennards to see what the hire costs would be for the appropriate tool - $98 per day.

Being the winning bidder at a local auction house, has landed me a used Ramset Dynadrill 640, with some bits and metal case, for $84. :)

Even though I already own a really nice Hilti drill, with dust extraction, the Hilti doesn’t have the “turn off rotation” feature, that the Dynadrill does, to use as a jack hammer.
