What motor is this?

    From memory we did a lot of broken crankshafts but will have to dig deeper in the memory banks for more details. I think they called them the "bastard 40hp" and it was basically a 1 year period, which would be the1960.

    I think they were a non fresh air 40hp.

    Barry it has the wrong fan housing for the 1960 1200 as those engines used the flap in the heater box system, not the fresh air as shown, it would also have been fitted with the throttle ring in the fan controlled by the thermostat.My 61 Ghia had that system and I think it ran until around 1964 when the fresh air system came into use. The throttle rings were mostly removed and discarded due to thermostat failure or the hessian insulation on the firewall came adrift and blocked the fan cooking the engines.

    I think fresh air came in around 1962. My '63 standard had a fresh air 40hp.

    Totally agree - but my confusion grows

    You have to realise that the Australian engine numbers didn't match up with the USA and other charts making our vehicles unique.
