Go for the last in the series, 1989/91 registered. Body wise all the same however the Caravelle GL is the pick IMO. Power steer and central locking and sometimes power mirrors and electric windows. Some very good examples around. Also popular are the Syncro and DOKA & SINKA
Dont wait too long though as prices are rising and there is less around than Bays and Splits

Thx mate that's what i was after.
How much of the lil extras are retro fittable to early models like 1985 (power steering aircon , central locking )

All able to be fitted to the water cooled versions however Air Con is a PIA money pit however some have made it work but at what cost?

Get the latest model that you can. There were small improvements each year. All of the later model (TKM imports) deluxes and Caravelle GLs had power steer and cloth seats.

later models have the 2.1 engine instead of the 1.9

My opinion is get a Caravelle C and add what you want

    Why - because I do find the GL interior a bit..............well................velvety :(

The C is plainer and more durable
The GL door cards with all its glitz just doesnt hold up

power steer isnt that hard to add or is central locking
AC is better does yourself later

Power mirrors and windows are over rated

With the AC do people choose the aftermarket or try and find original ?

Genuine air con is very rare in Australia. It is much better than the locally fiitted by the 2 companies.

I think you would have a better chance with a watercooled T3 although I know a few who have recently rebuilt air cooled t3s that are running well and reliable (so far anyway).

I think going for the most improvents ie later model is valid.
That's what a T3 gives over a bay, comfort and driveability. Plus space and load carrying capacity.

    Air cooled is fine.
Just like any good efi 2l . simple if running well.

Water cooled give nice driving plus easy swap to suby 2.5 ;)

    Better seats :)
Very car like manners in comparison to bay.

All better on rust than bays but Phil can detail year differences if any.
