Ive dreamed of owning a kombi van since driving around europe in a convoy of kombis in my early 20's. Wee while ago... Id REALLY appreciate some advice. Ive found one that I absolutely LOVE and am very excited. however its in perth. Can anyone advise how i would be best to go about having it looked over mechanically. I would be buying it sight unseen and shipping from perth to the gold coast so any knowledge about this and also insurance would be awesome. I look forward to meeting you all and cant wait for some VW convoys!!!
Hi sonya & welcome to the Kombi Club. Some member from Perth may be able to check it out for you. Cheers
Sight unseen always has its risks. Photos are usualy a poor comparison of reality. Strongly advise a local vw specialist pre purchase report. @gasman in Perth works for a mechanic and well grounded to advise or suggest inspection places . I'm happy to give a rough opinion based on photos if it helps. Pm thru " inbox" at top of page if interested. Cheers Col
That would be fabulous. Id REALLY appreciate your opinion. I think ive sent you a message with link. Still finding my feet with this webpage.
Thankyou. so gazman is a member and does specialist pre purchase reports in perth? Cool!!! Would i send him a pm through inbox?
You suggesting I have gas Col? @sonya Joy do you know where in Perth the bus lives? We are based a fair way south (Rockingham) but if its too far I'm sure we can find a shop that can check it over. Or as cbus mentioned we can pick over any photos and at least give a rough idea on condition. Also welcome to call the shop and talk to me or Gary, https://www.facebook.com/Motor-Trend-Service-Centre-Rockingham-323879318028706/
Sorry. Wondered why it didn't come up as a link Sonya Pm came thru. Will check them in an hr or so. Cheers
The boys at Vee Dub Salvage at Mermaid Waters helped me out to transfer QLD registration from NSW and were great. If you end up purchasing from interstate I recommend them once back in QLD
Welcome sonya joy to the KC .Hope you find some wheels attached to a kombi so you can drive it,wherever it takes you.Best of luck with it.
Welcome aboard Sonya!! We're in Sydney and bought ours sight unseen in Hobart. Asked an awesome KC member down there to look over it and after offering cases of beer he was more than happy to. He also recommended a mechanic who i had it with for a couple of weeks, Flew down , drove home, kombi is awesome!! Have fun. And send beer (or a bottle of vino) to anyone who helps over there even if you dont go ahead with the purchase!! Cheers
Welcome Sonya. You could not find d a better club or club members any where than those you will find here. Chris.
Good morning can anyone recommend a vehicle shipping company they've used/heard of please?! Need to organize kombi transported from Perth to the gold coast? Yewwwwwww
Symonds n Clarke trans in Adelaide have stored kombis in their w/house at Port Adelade ready for transporting to where ever.you could try them. Not sure whether they have a depot in Perth ,Be prepared for a hefty bill though. Not cheap over that distance. Most transport companies will do it but choose carefully, CHEAP IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST OPTION.If you can , stay with a reputable vehicle trans company who specialise in this field. I have seen vehicles being loaded onto flatbeds by forklift, not a good thing. If can't be driven on then find another company. Toll Transpport is one that comes to mind.
