OK I know the season doesn't start until 14th March but I just had to start this year's F1 thread.

I think it's going to be a cracker year with so many new teams, talent, circuits, regs and of course the always controversial MS, who will be racing in a German car, with a German engine and a German teammate!

This year will see the end of mid-race refueling (not for the first time), narrower front tyres and a change in the points system.

Korea will be hosting its first race in October and the Hermann Tilke (as no-one else seems to be able to design a race track) circuit looks like it should be good. Better than Valencia I hope!

If you haven't seen them yet check out the new livery this year. I'm loving the Jordan-ish Renaults, the black & red VirginGP & my absolute favourite is the Lotus throwback to Jim Clark days with British racing green with yellow stripe. It could only have been better if Lotus went with the John Player Special black & gold of the Senna era.

Obviously I'm hanging for the season and the late nights to start!

    Trav.

Trav, I am itching for it to start. Have been catching up on news for the past 2 weeks. Great to see Lotus back. Red Bull is the only team to retain its driver pairing. Everyone has been warning Roseberg about having to bow to you no who. It's going to be an interesting year. :) Rod.

Less than a month to go.:D
Personally I'd like to see Nico kick "boxhead" into touch & Felipe do the same to Alonso. However, I would like to see Hamilton or Button take the championship, unashamed McLaren fan.
I think Mark Webber is on his last season in F1 & that Raikkonen will take his seat next year (alongside Vettel), but I'd love to see him do well in the Red Bull.Don't forget young Daniel Ricciardo is the 3rd driver for Toro Rosso & may get the call up, if either of the main drivers are injured (or incompetent).
It'll be the big boys once again, McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull & Mercedes (Brawn) & the drivers Hamilton, Button,Vettel, Schumacher, Massa & Alonso I'm still not sure on Rosberg or Webber.
Force India will pick up the pieces if the big boys stuff up & may even win, ditto for Renault,Williams & Toro Rosso. As for Virgin, Lotus, Campos & USF1 they're only there to make up numbers (if the last2 even make it) & will be an embarressment.
Let's forget about these new tracks & concentrate on the great tracks, Silverstone, Spa, Hockenheim, Monaco & Monza & even Montreal.
Just my thoughts at the moment.:)

3days 21hours 46mins to go till Friday practice!

Only 12 teams to make it to the grid with USF1 missing the cut and Campos has changed names to HRT which reminds me of MRT, the Singaporean metro but I'm sure the MRT would have better livery than the gun metal grey of the F1 team.

Speaking of great tracks Terrordales what happened to Donnington being the 2010 British track?

Qualifying will be on Channel One 10:00pm Sat.
    Highlights 10:00am Sunday.
    Pre-Race 10:00pm Sunday.
    Race 10:30pm Sunday.

Donington fell in a heap after the death of Tom Wheatcroft. Basically they over reached themselves & couldn't get the proper financing in place to get it up to F1 standards.
Thank goodness, Silverstone is a much better circuit.

Wow, less than 7 tenths between the top 9.....:)

Then add over 4 1/2 tenths for Old Man Schumacher in 10th

And there seems to be three that will be a long way off the pace and just making up numbers, and another that may struggle. :umm:

Virgin.... designed on a computer using CFD & no wind tunnel. Theoretically good, in real life .... maybe not such a smart move. What would you expect from the man who designed the Simtek of years gone by.
Lotus.... the only thing going for them is the name. It still evokes memories of Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell & Ayrton Senna. Unfortunately that's all they've got going for them.
HRT.... Poor Bruno Senna, what a dead beat team to end up in.:(
HRT = Hormone Replacement Therapy (not Hispania Racing Team). Hot flushes & massive mood swings will be the high point of their campaign this year.

First time in about 5 years I've been excited about the F1 season starting again. I guess I stopped watching after Schumacher retired. Not because I liked the man. He was always the villain in my eyes. But strangely now that he has returned, so has my passion for the sport.

Will be watching closely this season. Not too happy about the rule changes. Fuel strategies made a race IMO. Oh well, lets see what 2010 has to offer.

And the master of fuel strategies was / is Ross Brawn. Curious to see how he copes this year...

After just 5 laps, 15 mins into 2nd practice, both McLarens have nailed faster times than anyone in morning practice....:)

The new teams are a danger to themselves & everyone else. Wonder if we'll see the reintroduction of the 107% rule?

Good to see Sauber move up the tables, their earlier times were a concern .... but a bit of a worry to see Webber barely faster than the three new teams, and so far behind his teammate :( (but I am guessing he had a problem, perhaps?) ...

    Mark Webbers explanation:
Mark Webber: "Not such a good day and not enough mileage. We missed out a bit this afternoon; I had a gearbox problem, so the team made a precautionary stop with the car which ended P2 early. We'll have to regroup and get what we can out of today - we'll be focusing on qualifying in tomorrow's practice. We still learnt some stuff today and Seb looked at the tyres. You can already see that it's going to be bloody competitive this year, it's going to be a good fight out there."

This first race is going to be the most unpredictable that I can remember. Can't wait.
