Wow! Thanks for all the replies. This bus was a complete wreck when I bought it off a local tow truck operator in Northern Nsw for $100 bucks, no not typo.

Apparently, the driver lost control and it rolled down an embankment. I took some photos at the time when digital cameras didn't exist so you can imagine how long Ive had this project. It's probably been in the last 3 years that progress really took off and we could really throw money at it. I must thank my father, he is an amazing fabricator and I will post you pictures of what he's made from flat metal into dog legs, sill panels etc.

Here's how it looked then...very daunting!

To make the bus possible it needed a lot of help and some donors too!

Before anyone gets upset the next picture show the dissection of vw bus! In fact two other kombi have been sacrificed to make this one.

Here's the first one a 66 rusty wreck that we needed the roof section to replace the 67 absolutely smashed in one...

Comparing the before and after side on photos is unbelievable - you have done an amazing job, particularly given how bashed about it was

Ok back to some resto pics...

Donor gets scalped and ready to replace heavily rolled and dented original. This bus was an ex PMG (post masters general) and the inside of this turret was a clean as shiny as the day it left the factory. Ruby red

Hi 68 bus, the engine is an ej20 subaru quad cam, it's puts out about 110kw (147hp). A whole car was sourced from Brookvale spares in Sydney and the half cut was sent including the dash to our house. Mum really loved that heap of s$&! Arriving on her doorstep. The proceed of labelling was done removing coolant, wiring etc.
the bus uses the subaru mounts, the IRS rear end off a 74 bus and drum brakes, this allowed the replacement of the reduction hubs. Here's a pic...notice the subaru cradle above.
