Brought this little set up from Tassie a couple of months ago, drove them both back to Adelaide the little 1600 did well considering we had 100k head winds all the way back, hail stones and lashing it down with rain most of the way. Took 12 hours to do the journey, left the boat in Melbourne at 7.00 am and arrived in Adelaide at 7.00/ 7.30 in the evening.

The kombi has a couple of welding bits to do ( battery trays ) and the paint jobs OK from a distance but all in all a really good lookin ride. It tows the caravan fantastic it only weights 490kg just the usual struggle with hills.

I re-tiled the floors in both the caravan and the kombi to match then made a diner / double bed in the caravan and fitted a 19in TV and a XBox. My wife made all the cushions and the curtains. The exterior of the caravan needs to be restored at some stage but will be fine for a couple of years yet. I have fitted whitewalls inserts, chrome dress rings on the wheels, a microwave in the kombi, aluminum side step , a table in the kombi and caravan with chrome island legs. and there is an instant hot water shower already installed in the caravan.

Just like to say thanks to Roy for the parts. I had trouble getting the whitewall inserts to stay on , after emailing Roy he suggested it may be the tyre black solution not allowing the whitewalls to stick , so after thoroughly cleaning the tyres a few times they eventually worked. Sorry for the headache Roy....

Took it to Adelaide shores campsite ( major outback campers ! ) to test everything worked all was well , except we were arguing with the kids on who sleeps where....

    Great set up.

Very impressed and the caravan really suits the kombi - just has the correct style.

The front could do with a couple of taps with the lowering stick though.

Excellent purchase and I am sure you will enjoy it this summer.

    Cheers,

Thanks syncro27 I was thinking the same just a couple at the front. I have now repainted the top half of the caravan the same colour as the kombi so it's not so white.

    Nice ride mate.

I missed out on the bus originally before she was restored. Good to see she was put back on the road anyway :)

Radar15 , not only with ease on the flat but you barely no it's there. And on your way into Adelaide there are plenty of steep hills and we were managing 50 to 60 kph not bad for a 1600.:)

What are the details of the caravan? It looks as though it predates your kombi by more than a few years.

Yeh Nigel the caravan was made in 1945 we are not sure wether it was home made ,like a lot were back then or if it was a rovan or a gypsy these were both caravan makers back in the 40 / 50s.:)
