Hi teebee, Albert looks sweeeet!! Love how original he is, seats look great. As David said id love to get inyo him with some cut and polish. Gertie had super rough paint when I got her, almost cut your hand rubbing parts of it but all came up nicely. Agree with concentrating on the mechanicals. Im sure someone on here can recommend a good one in Melbourne.
    Cheers

Yes, I've heard good things about Volkscare. I just have to rescue Albert from the hostage situation first. o_O

I went to the RSPCA once. They had 92 Cocker Spaniels looking for a home (yes NINETY TWO). Long story but we took one home. So back on topic - sounds like you need to rescue a bus!

92?? Wow! They must have been from a puppy farm or something? Poor little darlings. :(
Yes, I think the time has come to reclaim my bus. Tomorrow is D Day. I will conduct a recon' mission to see if Albert is still in his holding cell, or whether he's made it to the workshop. Then I'll make up my mind as to getting him out of there. My only worry is that he hasn't been started for 3 months, and won't want to start, i.e., developed a case of stockholm syndrome.

Every time I drop in, he tells me he'll be starting work in the "next couple of days". He's a good mechanic, which is why he's so busy, but after 3 months, I think he is giving other people priority over me. :(

Time to ask if he seriously wants your money, and if so, when can you collect the vehicle with the work completed.

If not, it’s time to take it elsewhere.

Well.... I tried to rescue Albert, but as it turns out, I'm not much of a hostage negotiator...
At least my mechanic has started looking at my bus, so that's something. He promised me that he'll be dropping out the engine next week and will call me with an update. I think I'm going to have to call in every week and check progress.

Don’t wait for his call - ring him Wed afternoon to see what the update is. (Will give him time Thursday & Friday to do something, if he hasn’t got around to it.) ;)

there's a lot of analysis that can be done with the engine in the car...has he found something that has made him decide to drop the engine?

in my opinion, if he's had the car for 3 months and has done nothing, all that dropping the engine will do is lock you in so you won't get it back for who knows how long

He said he's investigated as much as he can with the engine still in there, so now he has to drop the engine to investigate more.

    Exactly.
What more does he expect to find by dropping it?

Was really hoping you'd get Albert released;) but now you've decided.... keep on the mechanic every second day:mad:.
Would love to know what he's chasing? Any knowledge for us TeeBee?
Show him your VW (German) personality ...not your Kombi driver personality:D.

It's got very little power and is blowing black smoke. Another mechanic told me he needs a top end engine rebuild. I wish I knew more about this kind of stuff. It's all a bit of a mystery to me. Although I'm trying to learn!
I'm unable to conjure up one of those unfortunately.
