I highly recommend the Barrington Tops, about 3.5 hrs nth Syd.
Take the Buckets Way turnoff approx 15 kms Nth of Raymond Terrace, pick up supplies at Glouster (beer at the Pub), continue to Barrington (last fuel stop) and past Copeland, climb over the range into the first valley & to the Cobark River bridge, about 20kms ?
Here you'll find lots of grassy water front camps on the junction of the Barrington and Cobark Rivers (check ur map) Limited admenities but basic dunnies for the shy and a fresh fast running river to bathe in.
Tents, vans, are cool, but no caravans.
The landowner will come around with ice, fire wood, etc, charge a miniuml amount & tell ya if ya dog chances his cattle he'll shoot it, ok.
Lots of things to do, river kayaking or air matts, gold paning & Mt Maid gold mine to visit, great for kids, all at the foot of the Barrington Tops Nat Park.
Get in early if you want the dream spot, as it can get busy with like minded campers.
Magic spot, but shhh, don't tell anyone yeh.
