    Howdy all,

wondering if you guys could offer some advice / recommendations on upgrading from a stock exhaust. Wouldn't mind chasing a few more horsepower (know i'm not gonna get a great deal with the stock 1600 pushing my 72) and also a nice, deeper note?

was looking at the dual quiet pack from Roy, it's flat 4 right? which has nothing to do with empi right? haha. I have been warned all to much about empi.

but yeah, something a bit better flowing and more burbly?

    Cheers all:)

What vehicle and engine are you tending to add this exhaust to?

Put the four to one stock exhaust it will last another 30 years
    The Aging Hippy
A nice deep throated throb and a bit of chrome I could never afford ......don't really care about the horse power, four to two has got to be better over stock
    The Young Rev Head
Extractors with a loud resonator ........ 25 extra hp who cares about the neighbours ..... should I get header wraps?

Real good note from a 4:2:1 exhaust and with a 1600 you'll get more options than us with Type 4 engines

There are a couple of threads about exhausts and the Type 4 engine. Have a read of Jack Raby's site on research and development of exhausts.

    Some ideas there for you

    Cheers

    Exhaust

I got a single quiet pack, does the job, and I can swap easily to a Stinger.
Bark, bark !! Ha har !

Like Brett said you have plenty of options with the 1600, check out classic veedub for a pretty good range of choice. and Roy has a couple at the Busstop. I have the GT twin on glomos type 4 but would like a deeper note and am not happy with having to sand and repaint the buggers every 6mths, no matter what i do it ends up rusting through and flaking thinking of going and getting something custom made up as the type 4 choice seems limited.

as far as the repainting goes i was speaking to an exhaust bloke yesterday and he suggested BBQ paint would stay on !!
i'll try it on the empis next time they are in need of a respray

over the years now ive tried that many different styles ive lost track of them all

there's 100s of styles for type1 engines but for best bang for $$ and sound u cant beat 4into1 with a quiet pack
go the stainless version for even better sound and will outlive the rest of the car

be careful tho with 4-2-1 systems
i built my own up when with a mercury torpedo muffler for clearance when i made my supercharger and u have to get opposing firing cylinders together or performance will suck
ive yet to see one thats made like that cos it requires complex bends
nearly all of them just tie 1&2 and 3&4 then into one

they need to be 4&2 and 1&3 for the system to work effeceintly

Oh yeah for paint best thing ive found is the pot belly black u get a bunnings seems to last the longest of all the paints
