Any advice on replacing headlight reflectors on my 74 Kombi Camper.
We just bought a new set from VW Heritage - very easy to swap over. Chinese of course and about $70 for the pair but I have kept the one good original in the hope of picking up another one down the track. Ours were sealed.
These are not sealed beams and the reflectors are attached to a spring loaded attachment that looks hard to get at to replace the reflector. Thanks I'll keep asking.
never had a Kombi without sealed beams...but see these are for sale at JK
Thought 74 was a semi sealed.
If you have the 3 peice units the lens will be flat rather than slightly curved ?
If so the clips come off easily enough with a blade screwdriver .
Be careful not to chip edge of lens.
Thanks Tintop & Cbus
Now am completely confused as a novice! Will take some Pic's 2 morrow & re-post thanks for your replies.
I was wrong.
The 74 I just checked has a semi sealed same as late bay. (Possible that a change occured during year if 73 was early type.)
Glass and reflector sealed as one with separate bulb for the late version.
Glass almost flat with only a rise of about 5-8 mm in centre.
Early type ..
More curve in glass . Maybe 10-15mm.
3 peice. Reflector, glass , bulb separate.
Chrome surround clipped to reflector and glass as one unit ....
whereas on the late version the chrome surround unscrews first leaving light assy still screwed to front panel light bucket.
Thanks Melissa-Tintop-Cbus for following my thread.
Feel really humble today! Just discovered as a 73 YO, if you clean your glassed & put some light on the subject, things aren't as hard as first seemed. Removed both headlight components today in half an hour. Easy Peasy, spoken to Kelly VW Performance Melb they have reflectors needed in stock. It's the aged mechanical & Kombi novice rearing its ugly head once again. Some of you guys must be laughing your tits off. Luv this KC Forum wouldn't have got so far without everyone willing to share their knowledge.
All a learning curve.
Some easy , some easier to have done.
Even tho I had owned splits and 71s I had to familiarise when I got late bays for the kids .
Always easier to ask .
Separate names with a comma.
