I've recently purchased the sweeeeetest 77 kombi which I am turning into a camper over the next 18 months of which I will not have a licence due to assorted scallywag behaviour. I also know nothing about kombi's apart from they are awesome! I look forward to learning from everyone and hopefully also helping...
My first move is to find a bull bar to mount the spare on PS I'm from Perth
    Cheers guys

Welcome to the club. You may want to try Nick at Volksparts on 0412345126 here in Bungendore. He may have a bull bar if you can't source one closer. I know he has freighted stuff to Perth in the past.

Fitted one of the above some years ago. Have had to weld the front panel after fatigue cracking. Any others had similar probs?
One day will remove and refit with wider interior straps to spread the load.

Welcome to the party that never ends

Re spare wheel there is a guy in Victoria who runs a VW mechanic a Resto business who has one that is fixed to the front bumper, will try to find him (again) and post a link for you.

Welcome to the Kombi Club! :)

Hopefully the restricted behaviour of a Kombi, will help you keep your licence in the future.....

I had a similar one on my 74, the one I had was a bit more heavy duty then this one, as posted above Alpal has one

See my post up the page a bit. The device is sturdy enough but the mounting to the front of the cab caused fatigue.

I've decided to go with the full bull bar but not sure where to mount it? Does the T2 come with the mounts below pre drilled?

Depends on the bar, there are different mount types.
