I have acquired a knock or clunk in my steering wheel which is being sent up through the column.

The knock only happens when the steering free play has been taken up and is about to turn the wheels/steering box.

I have isolated the knock to the knuckle/universal joint between the column and the steering box.

    Any ideas?

I got the a chance to get the kombi up on my hoist this afternoon and have a tinker on the front end.

The clunk was coming from the clamp that joins the bottom of the steering column to the steering box, just tightened it up using a 13mm spanner and a 13mm socket on a 3/8 ratchet.

Also tightened the steering box, was a lot of adjustment there!
Greased the front end and removed the steering dampener/checked for even push/pull, all checked out OK.

Only worrying thing I found was that cos my bay is so low, the ball joints sit a extreme angle and have torn all the ball joint boots to hell....bugger.

Other than that it steers a dream now with no clunking!

Got no pics sorry, only had enough time to get that done between jobs...
