i came across recently a project by a Cairo based hackerspace to hit the road and build a traveling hackerspace to bring the art of hacking to far flung places in Egypt.

Their vehicle of choice a good Ol' T3

Some are very well equipped providing access to high end machinery - laser cutters, water jet cutters, CNc routers and a wealth of shared knowledge.

Many are called makerspaces the term Hacker is not limited to the illeagal access to computers but also can refer to one who hacks something together or makes something do what it was not originaly designed to do.
Almost as an opposite to profesional.

A great site to check out is hackaday.io where people post their project/ hacks etc. Ive got a page of things on there - Im prety easy to find.

I guess in someways its a bit of a techno subculture made up of nerds, artists and people that just like makeing stuff.
