Looks like he is trying to get back what he has spend on it . It has had nose job lift and a tuck.Still needs to spend another $50000 to make it look like a 69 bad make over. You can't make an orange look like a apple by painting it ,theirs internal details that are all wrong.
Should have started with a lowie - or just keep it as a 79 Whatever - LOVE the motor And the seats a kool too!
Guessing Porsche 914 2.0L Type 4 motor? The main bit I dont get is if it is a 1979 - why make it look like a lowie? For that money - just get a lowie, or be happy with the later look? Can see what the problem would be with getting it registered? Its lowered and has aftermarket seats General engineering should see it passes?
That Porsche motor is going to cook if they don't fix the tinware and seal to fit the engine compartment properly

Someone, yet again, has run out of money before the project has finished. my guess is the scored a motor out of a 912 or 914 and "are planning" of getting it in there. Wonder if it has any km's on it at all?

Hi guys. I got a lost Kombi, he served us great travelling up and down the east coast until we got Kids. Then we went for a ‘normal’ car and Tombi the Kombi got left out in the rain for more years than I care to admit. When we moved house I garaged him with the intention of cutting out the rust with my son and bringing him back to his past glory. But house reno’s kept taking priority and now it’s been 7 years (I don’t believe it). Realistically my boy won’t be old enough to learn how to weld for a good 5 years yet and the wife and I think it’s time to hand him over (the Kombi not the boy) to someone who has the opportunity to fix him. What’s a orange 76 Bay going for these days with a lot of rust in all the usual places. Bottom of doors, tail lights, front arches, surface rust over the roof. It wouldn’t get road worthy with his current amount of rust but he kicks over like a dream and I take him for sneaky drives round the local streets at night. Sunshine Coast
Tombi Kombi - 1st up welcome to the party that never ends 2nd - what's it worth is like asking how long is a piece of string ..... if only short sneaky drives then expect mechanicals (ALL) will need going ove also ..... interior as in trimming etc condition = is someone willing to pay what you ask ..... pictures may help some put a value on it ..... there's some similar to your's listed on gumtree so check that out
Cheers, I've been a long time voyeur of the forum. I've added some pics to original post. I know pricing a Kombi is hard and i want to move it on, I just don't want to have my pants pulled down in the process. On gumtree I've seen a '75 with similar rust issues for $7,900 but that ad has been around for a bit, so I figure he's asking too much.
Edited the 1st post so your pictures are full size Plenty of Kombi's for sale in all condition on both gumtree and carsales - some been there for a while and nothing seems to go quickly so patience is what you'll need and a price you'll be happy with ..... hopefully someone out there wanting a project at the right price.
Oh your so right ,i used to own a 56 splittie once ,the biggest mistake was when i sold it for $100 to buy a V J Valiant St/wag.at the time it was only worth scrap money . My advice is like yours Alpal ,hang onto it ,you may never get the same chance again.
And by the time its likely to get fixed it will be akin to a split recovered from a rainforest. That rust is going to be significant already. That it also usually the manor cost in a Resto. I would suggest drowning it in lanolin if it gets kept. Reality is it's going to cost a fair bit to repair and paint so keep that in mind when crunching any numbers. Then compare with what one on the road is worth.
