Evening all, had a bit of a rustle around in the bins at Jaycar the other day and thought I would do a quick write up on doing instrument lights on the cheap. The parts required are LED GLOBE T5 B8.5D WHT 12VDC and cost $2.21 ea.

*So here we are, the old bulb verses the LED as you may buy it. It is close to right, but not.

*You start buy unclipping the tangs on both sides of the body on both and pushing the bulb up and out.
*As you can see once they are out only some minor trimming is needed to the upper tang to make it fit.

*All you have to do from there is push the LED bulb back into the VW body and you are done, do note though the clips will not locate as they are slightly higher on the LED. If you force it it will fit but you will then have no contact as the arms will be too low in the body. Don't worry they wont fall out without the clips locating.

*Lastly put them back in, if they don't work you have the polarity wrong and just spin them around 180 degrees
    *Enjoy white light

I have used these before, but didn't think to share. Can't remember if them are dimmable?

I think I found the tabs could be a bit aggressive on the plastic foil, you have to take care.

The tabs are a little pointier.

They do dim but not much, so I would say they are not the dimmable type.

by the sounds they are the same ones
