I could... but it was a bit more with the hands all over and people opening doors to get in and sit in it - even locking it would not stop them trying the doors and I would have to stand guard - it's a long day

I do agree with you, you need to guard it all the time to be sure it remains intact and undamaged.

From the coastal watch website ad:

Get up close to these iconic vehicles,”

I think some people take this too literally, and think they have a right to interfere with someone else’s possession.

Yes, last year’s event was really quite unusual.....
I’ve been doing this event since it first started.....and it’s always been a pleasure to be a part of.
The general public at the 2019 event were exceptionally intrusive and rude.
I ended up sitting in the sliding doorway to dissuade people from just jumping in without asking.
Even then there were some that told their kids to walk in but,
    “be nice to the man....wtf?”
Volkswagen had their latest vehicles there and were encouraging people to ,
“ jump in, try it all out.....”
and I think they thought that our buses were an open invitation to do the same.
Not everyone was like that.......however a lot were.
I won’t be losing any sleep by not being there this year.......
    Cheers,
    Mark

I love this event, mainly the free premium parking at Manly beach!! but agree its not like other show and shine type events. Normally show and shines are filled with respectful car enthusiasts who choose to come along. This one just plants us in the public domain, most lookers are just out and about and stumble across the kombi eye candy. I love the conversations on this day from 13 year old dreamers to family holiday memories from 80 year olds, it awesome!!
