    Hello friends.

Unfortunately the time has come for me to replace the heads in ‘Penny’ (sigh). The valve seat in cylinder 1 has been rapidly sinking/recessing and I know I have a crack in the exhaust port on the other side too.

Can anyone tell me the best place to buy them from? This will be my first attempt at removing the engine so I’m looking for the easiest possible swap over. Basically I hope to unbolt the damaged heads and bolt on the new ones. Also, any tips on what else I’ll need to buy like any gaskets or seals etc?

    Thanks, Nathan

When was the last time the clutch and rear seal done?

Engine out is also a good time to change some fuel hoses around the tank

    Thanks Barry.
Do I need/want the EGR / smog ports? What are they? How do I know if I need them? Sorry for the silly questions.

I have the oval exhaust ports with the copper gaskets. I had to change them a while back which is when I noticed the crack.

No idea on when the clutch was done but it seems ok.
I’ll change the fuel hoses for sure while the engine is out.

You don't Nathan. Didn't start here until later than your bus build.
Worth checking clutch plate whilst engine out. Small effort to save time in the future;).
Add in push rod tube seals to your buy & they be a POP to do with heads off.
    Cheers

    Thanks David.
Will do with the clutch plate and definitely will do the pushrod tube seals.
Is there anywhere in Australia I can get the heads, decent ones? The ones in the link that Barry gave me are from Utah.

When you add them to the cart it adds tax so they end up being $1221 a pair. But still a $100 saving I guess.

“Prices displayed by a business must be clear, accurate and not misleading to consumers.“

“When you present prices to your customers, you must state the total price of the good or service as a single figure, which is the minimum total cost that is able to be calculated. This should include any tax, duty, fee, levy or other additional charges (e.g. GST or airport tax).”

    Kai
No where does that website state that the price excludes GST.

It is an Australian web site.
I don’t believe it makes any difference the fact that they are an overseas company.
They are advertising in Australian dollars

I’ve ordered a set from Just Kampers. They had one pair left in stock. They were $660 each. I also have ordered all the seals and gaskets I need as well such as the pushrod tubes, rocker covers, exhaust. So now I’ve got a big job ahead of me!

Just FYI @David H , I called Tooleys and they wanted $925 each plus shipping and GST.
