    Hi Folks,
Just purchased a new to us Silver Caravelle GL with automagic! Bought it off a fellow kombi club member - it even comes with a kombi club sticker!

Whilst I love manual kombis and will always prefer them over a sluggish auto, the boss and eldest daughter (who will be driving in less than 10 months) want an auto.

Hence, the purchase of an auto version of my existing white 2wd caravelle GL.

This one is a 91 and has a few additional options that I don't have in my current white caravelle.

It has factory alloy wheels, tachometer dash and power mirrors - very fancy :D

Anyway, Its off the the panel shop on Monday to have the rust removed and a respray. As you can see from the photos - some has already been done to the passenger side and roof - just no paint - yet.

New front and rear bumpers and a few other bits required and it will be awesome. Very happy - although now I have 4 kombis and a golf - surely thats not too many - is it?

    Well done Scott.
You just gotta love those Caravelle autos.
Another Suby 2.5 on the horizon...?

No need at this stage Gerry.

The engine was reconditioned about 75000kms ago - gearbox reconditioned about 20,000kms ago.

    It runs very well.

Gets up to speed but just a lot slower than the manual versions do.

Suby would only replace the motor it if it was dead

An auto can be made to have more punch.
And not just by adding more torque via suby :)
not sure of the mods but having driven a modified one in a Ford and another in a kombi there are certainly gains to be made.

Turn the air con OFF ;) for it to get up to speed quicker  ...... mechanic mate in the Solomon Islands (81/83) used that analogy to get Turbo power

You'll have to tell us the name you've given it (or her, or him), Scott.

Nice pick up Scott:). No such thing as too many but Mel must be on board with wanting to add to the collection so the next one in must be your choice;).

Is it really “Flash Silver Metallic X9X9”, coz in the pics it looks more like “Savannah Beige Metallic S8S8”? o_O

What’s the colour code stamped on it?

    Its definitely silver Grant.

Flash in colour but not in speed.

No matter - no chance of a speeding ticket!

Have been dismantling today in the bumper areas as she goes in for some panel love and paint on Monday.

Hopefully done before Christmas - but I keep finding more rust. Two more spots after the bumper was removed - nothing major - just annoying.....

You are a bad influence Mel.

    Guessing that’s a standard T3 “No”.......or is it a “just needs a regassing” type sales ad answer........

    Yes - just a "re-gassing" Ha!:p

I actually had the same "factory" Ha! air conditioning in my syncro before the pop-top installation.

I had that fixed once and it lasted a week.

    Has a good fan though.
