Hey Mick, also check the little carbon "stump" inside the top of the dizzy cap. Often overlooked......may be worn out/broken/missing altogether.

Academic now but have had this before in our old corona, turned out to be the little earth wire between the dizzy advance plate and the casing had come off. Took a while to find that one... Same deal, one minute running, the next minute, zippo.

I've seen that once when I stopped to help a guy with a Saab that stopped on the side of the road.

I usually find if my van was running one minute than grinds to halt unexpectedly it is because I've run out of fuel. Which technically is an electrical problem because my fuel gauge doesn't work properly

Had a problem some time ago with Schmetterling that a fuse would blow and the car would stop. Would crank over but not start. Install a new fuse and away we would go. Eventually found that the drivers side choke was shorting intermittently and popping the fuse. Until I found the choke problem it was a puzzler. May be related problem??
