    Hi all,
Just starting to plan a trip up north for the first week of June and wanted to get some good ideas! Would like to head up to Byron and spend a few nights there, but also spend a night or two getting up there and back. Wondering where we should stop along the way. Not a huge fan of caravan parks, does anyone know of some nice national parks or anything to stop at? Fun things to do along the way? And also a good place to stay in the kombi in/around Byron for a few nights? Hopefully it won't be too cold! Thanks guys!

You have heaps of options all the way up the coast .
Between Newcastle and Taree Myall Lakes National park* ...Eastern side Hawks Nest ---Mungo Brush*
Western side Violet Hill*, Neranie Sands,* Seal Rocks *
Taree Hinterland Knorrit Flat a private run rustic park with facilities.* Crowdy Head National Park * ..Diamond Head* ..Kylies Lookout*
Port Macquarie heaps of commercial van parks
North of Port Mac,....Crescent Head great surf break!.*.. Point Plommer * rustic camping areas road usually fairly rough
Hat Head choice of van park or bush camping***
South West Rocks commercial park or Arrakoon *"Old Goal area"
North of Kempsey Grassy Head, Scotts Head* van parks
Nambucca White Albatross * Valla Beach*
    Coffs Harbour Commercial parks
    North Coffs Red Rock *

We have stayed at those marked with a * and would return
June / July can be cold but great camping just the same !

Thanks, that is absolutely awesome! I'll do some research. I was actually supposed to be heading to bali but have spent so much money doing up the kombi that we thought we should just go on a kombi trip!

There's also Yamba/Angourie about 1 hour and a half south from Byron, awesome place-decent surfing and fishing. Heaps of places around the Coffs Harbour area that are good to pull in for the night as well though.

Shame it's not a May trip, Nimbin MardiGrass Kombi Konvoy would be a must. It' the first Saturday in May.

Make sure you visit Nimbin while you are up this way.

we like to stay at wallamba river park at north tuncurry on water. It is a very well equiped caravan park, massive kitchen, pool table and swimming pool but if you request to stay down near back creek unpowered you will feel like you are a million miles from anyone but can walk to get a good pizza on friday or saturday night kombi club pics 2 004.jpg . Dog friendly also.It is known for water skiing.
