Melbourne weather a bit challenging last night. Blackout about 8 pm. Quiet night with candles, torches etc. Power company advise would be off for a while. Checked this morn and the message was 'back on Sunday'! Off to Bunnings for a generator. Back home and assembled, oil in sump, fuel in tank, connected to fridge etc, First pull start. Magic.
Power comes back on for the area.
    Great generator!

As Adrian said, good to have for next time. :)

Also good to have for the fire season, if your water supply is not town water, and you rely on an electric pump to work. ;)

The good news is that we are OK. Bad news is that some locals are still out and others have a brown out with low level supply.
Our new generator is green! Will have to check its credentials. Being retired no tax relief available. The Feds now classify us pensioners as welfare recipients! So this is part of my welfare.

Interesting that we have full power supply and adjacent neighbors have a brown out. Only explanation is that they are on a 3 phase supply and we are 2 phase?
Not complaining. Nice to have the comfort and convenience of 240V.
Our new generator is now pumping power into the neighbors fridge and freezer. Hope full power back on Sunday for them??

Spoke too soon. They turned us all off Sunday night 11:30 pm. Been in the dark until Wednesday night 8:10pm. Had to get the gene back from neighbours who had replaced their dead unit. A few days with candles, torches and kero lamps. No sun so the solar gain on the hot water was poor. Tepid showers! Otherwise OK. Read a few books.
Nice to have the benefits of electricity!

After the 2003 fires in the ACT, we were 5 days without power, so feeding a borrowed generator lots of fuel, to keep the water pump, sewerage system and fridge running……..but that was summer, and the hot water storage tank went the distance, and zero heating required.

After that, I did appreciate how cheap the electricity bills were, to run the whole property, compared to the fuel costs for the generator to run just the vitals.
