Hi all .
New bits arrived this week and with new shims installed on new pisitons and new cylinders it's all looking good so far...
Shims give a new deck height of 1.4 mm and so a new compression ratio of 7.4:1....all seems ok
I am usings a small amount of high temp RTV to help seal under cylinder to block....
Any other recommended or preferred sealant for cylinder shim to block?
Heads should go back on tomorrow, and maybe have all back together over the weekend .
Then we will see if it's all been worth it
Will be like a different beast with new matching heads and proper deck height.

A few progress photos....think I got a bit carried away with Repco special offer on blue heat paint.. it's blue...

Total disaster ......
Aligning motor to clutch and gearbox...I bolt top right hand side bolt as guide
and Jack failed....the new trolley jack dropped and motor hanging on 1 bolt...
That caused a crack and failure of engine block...
What a mess....
What a bummer!
Invent any new swear words?
Should be fixable.
At a guess I recon it should be weldable without stripping block.
Lucky it's aluminium and not magnesium alloy.

Bugger That was my greatest fear when i was putting mine back in. I used an ATV lift and a jack but the ATV lift kept creeping down all the time then i had a 3 hour struggle with the gearbox mounts where i had to pump the lift every now and again to keep it up. Very stressful on your own
That's the one........ATV lift was loosing height so aligment and adjustment was difficult then the ATV's whole lifting mechanism sh*t itself...
Disappointing to say the least...
Mine was a new supercheap one I should have taken it back but i needed to get my engine out and the nearest store is 2 hour round trip so I pulled it apart myself and found the cheaply put together jack bottle was the problem all the internal pieces were bent and would never work properly I did do some repairs to the parts and got it working ok but I will never trust it. Now I have taken it apart i'll have no warrantee so i'm stuck with it and will have to try and find a replacement bottle jack to fit it later on and modify it.
We have the same ATV jack...I got a Repco special half price deal....this is the first time I used it.....it was loosing it's lift range... only lifting a minimal amount . ( If only I threw it out and bought a better one)
bummer Ian - hopefully it can be patched...
as far as the jack goes it may have air in it - there will be a rubber bung (filler) somewhere, pump it up and deform it a bit with a screwdriver and air will probably make it's way out.

Assembling a hydraulic jack is hardly rocket science. Probably simpler than building a wooden wheel.
Even if a lot of Chinese labour is slave labour
I would expect one to work but also have one with same symptoms.
