Thanks for your input Greg. Here we are 43 yrs later trying to work out what they did.
OMG. That was my first Kombi.... a 76 flipper blue in 77 at age 20. Sadly didn't last long.
And here’s Harry’s plates. Fairly neat compared to others by the looks of it!
Note how the Sopru plate modifies the seating capacity from 2 to 4....
behind pass seat no month just a year.
behind drivers seat
Thanks Buggergary. Did you vote?
Yours is another with no stamped month in front of '76 like Barrys.
Now to introduce something my OCD sees.
Stamped numbers at the bottom of those plates.
All read 2382 as the first 4 numbers.
Barry has 081253 ?/76
Mr Beckstar 100829 6/76
David has 147234 10/76
Buggergary 158331 late/76
And might I say Buggergary whilst your apprentice failed in getting the month stamped before engraved '76 he sure turned up when he stamped those lower numbers.
Also a font difference between Barrys & the rest. What month manufacture @Barry?
So what were the last 6 numbers about as I doubt they sold 46,k between Mr Beckstars & mine.
Another random Sopru thing? Hey...just go & stamp some numbers on that plate?
I've said elsewhere here that Buggergary is late 76 so that follows my number as does Mr Beckstars follow Barrys if Barrys is early 76.
I thought they were 236 2...
2- Type 2
3- Transporter with Windows
But I stand to be corrected....
If there is a difference of one month between the Australian compliance plate and sopru plate on Mr beckstar then Buggergary would be about 12/76 on is sopru plate.
Yes voted when the post was put up and have been following it. i seen a few had put up pics of their plates so i thought i better add them
Yes that apprentice was getting into it with the hammer that day lol he has nearly punched the numbers through the plate
@David H , the last six numbers are indeed successive for each chassis made. Don’t forget it’s worldwide, not just Australia.
Harry is definitely 2362...
Ah, I get it. It's a repeat of the chassis number & yes Grantus it'd be 236 to younger eyes.
