Unless any Bathurst, Lithgow, or Blue Mountain KC members have a decent air cooled mechanic they could recommend.....

I'm being bold (or stupid:confused:) as time will tell having booked my car into previous long term (36yrs) mechanics business whom retired after him starting an apprentice 10 yrs ago & then sold business to a new guy 3 years ago.

Young Dean is prepared to have a go at pushrod seals having never done them before:eek:. I had a PM conversation with our mod Melissa about this business ( & Dean) & that I was hopeful that my time with this business could continue. Bit doubtful but I've got the bits & Kombi Club printed instructions. You'll never never know if you never never go!

Plan B is Penfolds from Georgetown recommended by Steve & Vicki.

I reckon the new mechanics have to learn somewhere otherwise there will be none left 'by attrition' & we'll all be driving to Idaho for a service (no disrespect Grantus but..).

Young Dean has known the vehicle since the start of his apprenticeship & 'more power to him for having a go'. Now has to 'do it by himself' without the master whom was trained by the old German master! I've got the retired masters mobile;) should it go south!

Dean has respect & knows he's working on a loved vehicle that is 12 years older than him. We like to not judge but I have a view of this young mechanic that he is dedicated to his craft.:). Hope I got that right.

May KC written instruction be kind to him!

Wish me good fortune & outcome.
Let you know outcome Friday 17th.
    :D
    Cheers,

Hello Grumble (by the way does your Kombi Club name refer to the engine?!!! :) Unfortunately where the adorable Miss D comes from is about a 4 hour drive one way! I have had my normal mechanic have a look but he is not a Kombi Specialist but has a mechanic friend who is and was willing to help... otherwise I can take her to Indian Automotive in Penrith??

Hello Grantus! There is ANOTHER crazy dog lady in town?! :) I don't think I know her... I actually only know a few people out of the supposed 2053 Portlandians. Re coffee, great idea! Name the day and I'll bring the adorable Miss D for a spin.

Hi Jane,no my user name was set up by my son when he worked for me whilst waiting to get into the Navy, on a few occasions he called me a Grumpy old ...... and went home because I wanted things done my way,we often laugh about things that happened. He is now married with 2 small girls and learning more about life.

I might add that we rebuilt a S bug while he "worked" for me and as he was good on the phone and knew most of my suppliers he ordered the parts for me and mysterious parts kept turning up occasionally. The S bug with a 2 litre kombi engine PBR booster and Sharpbuilt conversion is a very driveable little car so it was worth it. Unfortunately 15 years on he still remembers the supplier and account details.

Mmm... I kind of agree, but Miss D was being serviced in Wodonga more recently by Per from PK Automotive rather than our friend in Canberra....
