Stuck Accelerator

    I was going to respond to another thread about a sticking accelerator but this is probably a bit more general.

    Yeah, you don't want your accelerator to be able to get stuck on - quick thinking with the ignition switch (and not steering lock) is the only way out, if a tap on the pedal doesn't free it. Over the years I've bought cars with the pedal linkage getting stuck, missing return springs and also throttle shaft nuts too tight.

    An interesting one is the clips that hold the air filter sections to the carbs on a dual carb engine...if they aren't clipped on and they fall backwards they can catch the accelerator linkage and keep it wide open. I've cut the tops off these clips on all of my carbs since this happened to me a while back.
