Got as far as Port Augusta today - decided to stay here tonight instead of pushing on.
Very windy - would have been a horrible trip in the kombi.

We are staying in Coober Pedy tonight. What a strange place! The Touareg is still powering along - we have not seen 1 kombi this trip and only 1 other Touareg and that was when we were coming in to Broken Hill.

Al, you will be pleased to know the caravan park we are staying in has drilled holes to plant trees - they are a precious commodity out here.

Looks like this Al - could also be referred to as Rubber Valve Crankcase Vent or Rubber Boot for Oil Breather. Fitted on Type 1 style "doghouse" engines and also Type 3 pancake style but as for Type 2 pancake can't recall

That was the most weird experience that the wife and I had ever had sleeping in an underground hotel room, when the lights went out ,I mean it got black dark.

A thousand lifetimes ago my 69 DOKA developed oil leaks (not unusual) where there were non before, eventually found item #26 had gone rock hard  restricting crankcase breathing, renewed offending item, engine thanked me by returning to marking its territory with one small oil spot wherever I parked. :D

Yes,,for those who have not seen it, its not the place I would ever want to go back to, stopped to take photo,s of some of the diggings but changed my mind when I started to get some dirty looks.
Overall its not that bad really its just absolutely different to what we are used to. Most of the people we spoke to were polite but straight to the point.

The Touareg powered on today. We have made it to Curtin Springs which is 80kms from the Uluru National Park gate and then it's another 20kms to the rock itself. It is freezing cold and raining!! This is supposed to be the desert. Tomorrow we are hoping to spend the whole day there.
Still no kombis - have seen 2 Wicked vans rolled and totalled on the side of the road - have seen 1 Touareg that ended up camped next to us last night and only 1 Amarok.
