Finally replaced the left hand rear hub and bearings in the Taxi Prius. After only 733,000 km it started to get excessively noisy, that noisy you could hear the engine rattles  What should have been a quick easy job, wasn't, the hub had rusted into the backing plate so everything had to come off including the handbrake shoes so I could disconnect the handbrake cable ...... the handbrake shoe R&R is supposed to be done with the wheel hub out of the middle, so access was difficult :rolleyes: All back together now, no wheel bearing noise .... but that engine sure rattles a lot now

Got the transmission for the Notch back a couple of weeks ago but mustering and lamb marking have kept me away from home. So today after a huge amount of swearing about engineers and 1 1/2 hours to get the bloody torque converter bolted to the flexplate, the engine and trans are back in the car. Tomorrow I'll hook it all up and hopefully take it for its first drive since May.

Yep. That's why I bolted them together before fitting them. Have done the whole trans still in car bolts to engine thing before! There is almost no space to get a spanner onto bolt, the flexplate and trans have to be spot on and the bolt fights the whole time. 45 minutes to get the first one to thread with the motor on a table and the trans hanging from an engine crane. Longest I've ever taken!

Have same job coming up soon.
Been putting it off but motor will need some TLC eventually.
Actually, possibly only head and rings so will leave the box attached. ;)
    Fingers crossed.

Patted he bonnet of the Prius with 730,000km on the clock and told it what a good car it was, it started every time, didn't have a starter motor and didn't need the stars to align just to get it going in cold weather ..... I think Kombi is trying to break me .....

The Mk3 Golf came home from the mechanic - a couple of simple things - oil pressure switch, a coolant fitting, rocker cover gasket and the belt on the power steering pump needed tightening - she is a great car (still)!

Started the Notch last night. Seems to have gears again. Will have to wait till the weekend to find out how it goes.
For the South Aussies ... Dubs By The River is on on the 19th of Sept at Morgan. Worst case is we park in the street and carparks. Best case is we're on the foreshore reserve as usual.

    Awesome Chris.
I've kept it a bit low key this year because of the big C thing but hope to have a good turnout as usual while doing the right thing. Still waiting on council for access to the foreshore but worst comes to worst we'll park where we can and take over the town! ;)

You know it well Barry ;)
Clear coat letting go now but still runs so well - zippy to drive, gearbox still just clicks into place and has only done 182,200kms.

Just to let people know the back story, I bought that car in 2010 for my son’s 18th. it was a bargain then thanks to Steve Natoli.
served him well but he moved up to my wife’s black New Beetle when she got her Eos, and my oldest boy got it.
After a few years it became surplus and was sold to Melissa.
    This Golf just keeps going.
    Been so reliable.
    Really like those Mk 3’s
